96 Tears

How did your band come together?

We had been in bands together since school. Quigs, Giz and our original bassist Sass contacted me after the break up of their old band. We have since gained a keys man and new bassist.

Please introduce yourself and your associates, what qualities do you each bring to the band, musically and otherwise.

Jamesie: Guitar
Quigs: Vocals
Giz: Drums
Kidd: Keys
Chuff: Bass

What inspires you, musically and lyrically?

We were all mega into the early 90’s Manchester scene, Roses first album and Primals Exterminator probably being the most singularly direct influences.
Our lyrics cover a lot of ground; love, rage, escape and disillusionment. Writing is handled by Quigs and myself. I’d say his words are very honest and direct where I add more of an abstract. The track on Nyquist Theory ‘Keep a Clean Nose’ is about trying to hide from guilt. We have a few tunes which can be checked out on our website www.96Tears.org.uk

On a 96 Tears curated festival bill, who else would play?

Primal Scream
Stone Roses
Rolling Stones
New FADs
Snoop Dogg
Billy Idol

What motivates you to record and gig?

We have songs that are worth recording and gigging.

If the musical world was ideal, it would…

…be wrist-slittingly boring.

Why should people buy the NYQUIST THEORY compilation?

Because it fuckin’ rocks.

Suggest a publicity stunt to increase your profile in the UK.

Not sure of the finer points, but I reckon Evel Kneivel would have to be involved somewhere.

What do you consider your best achievements in music?

The music speaks for itself and we’re happy with it.

What more would you like to achieve with your music?

Ultimately we want to be able to make a living from 96 Tears and jack the day jobs.

If you weren't in a band just what would you do with your evenings?

Gamble.

What are your future plans for gigs and recordings?

We will be playing Edinburgh’s Left Bank 24/04/05 and Caledonian Backpackers on 14/05/05, a few other dates in the pipeline. Recording-wise we’re struggling because of monetary matters. When we get the means, we’ll be getting in the studio.

What, with regards the UK music scene, upsets you?

In a word, Feeder.
